Gladiator combat was once the main event held in an amphitheater like the Coliseum in Rome, Italy. Viewed usually by the elite adults and other gladiators, the events eventually became larger and would be seen in places like the Forum. Some slave gladiators fought wild animals. Many would inspire admiration for their bravery and skill and were celebrated throughout Rome. If some of these spectacles were held today, they would cost millions of American dollars.
